Jon Gustafsson is a writer, director and a producer. He studied at the Manchester Metropolitan University in the United Kingdom and California Institute of the Arts in the United States. While at Cal Arts, Jon was mentored by a legendary Ealing Studios director Alexander Mackendrick. After graduating from the film school Jon directed several documentaries in Iceland regarding different subjects, including environmental issues, human rights, and more. His first feature film, “Kanadiana”, was made in Canada with support of Telefilm Canada. “Kanadiana “ was invited to many film festivals around the world, including UK, Ireland, Iran, Egypt and India. The film won several awards. In Canada Jon made another documentary “The Importance of Being Icelandic” for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation – CBC. He also directed a music video for the Canadian band The Watchmen for their song “Brighter Hell “ and received the Blizzard Award for it. In 2001 Jon founded the Gimli Film Festival and acted as festival director for the first couple of years. In 2004 he took part in the big budget epic “Beowulf and Grendel” directed by his friend Sturla Gunnarsson in Iceland. He decided to follow the filmmakers during the production with his small digital camera. This project became an award-winning documentary “Wrath of Gods” supported by the Icelandic Film Centre and Canadian Broadcasting Corporation. The film was shown at numerous film festivals around the world, including UK, USA, Portugal and Poland and received six awards. It was screened on RUV in Iceland and CBC in Canada.
